Marketing and Community Outreach Intern
DESCRIPTION
The Marketing & Community Outreach Intern will work approximately 15-20 hours per week from July 2024 through January 2025 & will receive one-on-one mentorship from the Producing Artistic Director to support community engagement & identify valuable campaign & outreach strategies for HERO's upcoming season. Collaborating closely with our Artistic Producing Intern, The Marketing & Community Outreach Intern will play a pivotal role in coordinating social media efforts, helping manage online presence & engagement, & bridging the gap between theatre for social change & LA’s diverse communities. Part of this internship experience entails directly communicating one-on-one with HERO’s local LA partnerships in organizations such domestic violence shelters for women & special interest community groups. HERO Theatre is also interested in identifying & marketing to new audiences & frequently engages with communities honoring artists during events such as Black History Month & Hispanic Heritage month.
QUALIFICATIONS
As a social and environmental justice company, HERO Theatre is seeking applicants who care and have an understanding of social issues happening today because they are relevant to the company and our artistry. We are seeking a team player who understands that being a part of the team at HERO Theatre means to be in service to communities in need. We’re seeking a self-starter, who enjoys working with a team, and who is enthusiastic about the work at hand. Someone who can follow directions and follow through without having to be micro-managed. Applicants should have excellent written and oral communication skills and basic administrative and typing skills. Some experience with Microsoft Office software preferred, particularly Word and Excel. Experience with Adobe is a plus.
BACKGROUND
HERO Theatre is a community-based company that uses art to model and bring about social and environmental justice. HERO invites audiences to envision and experience America as we do. HERO examines classical and contemporary works, ensuring that equity, diversity & inclusion remain in the forefront. HERO Theatre was founded in 2011 by Artistic Director Elisa Bocanegra, a Puerto Rican artist. As one of the first Latinas to perform in major regional theater, Bocanegra has survived tremendous racism and has been saddened & frustrated by the lack of equity & inclusion in American theatre. After an inspiring conversation with fellow cast-mate, Olympia Dukakis—who encouraged Bocanegra to start her own company—Bocanegra, who comes from humble beginnings, started HERO Theatre to elevate artists from underrepresented communities & has created a flourishing company. HERO is known for being a safe place for artists of color to practice their craft and draws a widespread L.A. audience.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit a resume, a letter of interest, and your resume that includes 3 references (ideally 1 academic, 1 personal, and 1 professional) by April 30, 2024. While not required, if you’re an artist (i.e. actor, director) please feel welcome to submit a separate creative resume as well.
