All For Irene Medical Fund (AFI)
FESTIVAL IRENE has been a successful event. However, we still need more to continue our support to Irene. If you missed the festival, you can still support by donating to the AFI medical fund.
This medical fund is created in honor of Maria Irene Fornes— one of the greatest playwrights of all times. Irene was a leading figure of the Off-Off-Broadway movement in the 1960s. She has been a great teacher to many well-known playwrights. Irene is at her late stages of Alzheimer's disease and she is living in a nursing home, Amsterdam House. Irene is alone in New York with only her friends to care for her. Irene has near to zero funds left to pay her nurse. We Hero Theatre has decided to create this fund in honor and as a friend of Irene. We want to make sure Irene can be taken care of. When the time comes for Irene to leave us, the medical fund will be used to help the artists in need in our community.
Hero believes that theater is a big family and in that we all share pain and joy. We wish that everyone who supports us and the arts would donate to this fund to give help to a great teacher.
