HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERO THEATRE
Celebrate our GOLDEN birthday by making your donation today!
As we turn 8, help us achieve our $80,000 fundraising goal.

Love from a community of artists and audience members has brought us this far...

Friends,

For the past eight years, HERO Theatre has boldly challenged the traditional definition of classics, championed voices we felt were of vital importance, and revived plays we know deserved to be heard by a newer generation. We've brought plays to communities at no-cost, and have mentored early career artists and administrators who we feel will make a change in the theater landscape.

As we approach our 8th, and GOLDEN birthday, we need your help to fund our biggest season yet! Our 8th season includes:
Picture
(Left to right) Former mentees and current Hero leaders Joseph Henderson, Gabe Figueroa and Julia Stier with our producing artistic director, Elisa Bocanegra.
*The world premiere of Troy, a riff on Euripides' The Trojan Women by Amina Henry. Troy chronicles the story of a single mother struggling to save her family from homelessness amidst rent increases in her neighborhood. Including original music by composer Justin Bardales, the play is inspired by true stories of homelessness in Los Angeles.

*Velina Hasu Houston's classic Tea, which recounts the experiences of Japanese war brides living in the United States after WWII. Featuring an all-female cast from Hero Theatre's acting ensemble, Tea is an inspirational and timely story of overcoming prejudice and hardship. Our advisory council chair, Olympia Dukakis produced Tea 30 years ago!

*The return of The Super Sabado Show, our variety show that includes original parody sketches about relations between the United States and Puerto Rico, post-Hurricane Maria. Proceeds benefit our programming and hurricane relief efforts on the island.

*The return of The Song Cycle Cabaret,
created and performed by current members and alumni of our mentorship program!

Help us meet our goal of $80,000 in honor of our 8th birthday! Our campaign ends on November 5th (my birthday). Please be our hero and donate today!

Warmest regards,
Elisa Bocanegra
Producing Artistic Director
