Meet the Commissioned Artists

Puerto Rican artists Elisa Bocanegra and Thalía Colón García make up the research and creative team for HERO Theatre and HERO Multimedia’s Nuestro Planeta: Puerto Rico. Bocanegra and García will create an original theatre piece about ocean justice, marine sustainability, and the coral reefs and their connection to hurricanes in Manatí, Puerto Rico. García is a native of Manatí, Puerto Rico.
Bocanegra first met her co-collaborator when García was part of the 2022 Olympia Dukakis Mentorship Program cohort at HERO Theatre. It was there that she learned of García's shared passion for environmental justice and for creating a difference with her art. They are excited to begin working on this piece and to meet with the community members of Manatí, Puerto Rico.
